Riverview Fire District was formed in 1927 as a volunteer group. In 1962 the city voted to switch to a paid department due to the growing population and an increase in call volume. Today, the district has 17 stations, 5 EMS-only stations, and employs over 300 firefighters, paramedics, chiefs, and support staff. The district responds to over 44,000 calls annually, over 9,000 being fire-related incidents. The district protects more than 100,000 citizens and 75 miles of land.
