Fire/EMS

Fire Chief: Michael McKeeman

Fire Suppression-
When a call comes into the local 911 call center, the dispatcher receives information about the nature of the call, the address, who is involved, and what services are needed. The dispatcher will then dispatch the appropriate units to the scene. The first arriving unit will assess the situation and determine what is needed for the scene. They will then provide aid to people in need of medical attention, begin to suppress a fire, or begin emergency operations for a rescue. Our crews are highly-trained and know exactly how to handle each situation. We can assure you, you are in good hands when our department responds to an emergency.

Emergency Medical Services-
The Riverview Fire District has a well-trained EMS service provided to all citizens. What makes our EMS service unique is that we not only provide service to Riverview, but also to the surrounding cities of Brickton Beach, and Brickside. We have a total of 20 emergency ambulances, or medic units. Each are staffed with two firemedics. All 20 medic units are stationed in fire stations in the community. All medics are ALS capable, or Advanced Life Support units, and can provide life saving assistance.  We also have several fire engines in Riverview that are ALS units. They can provide the same care as a medic but cannot transport a patient to a hospital. Having ALS fire units is vital as they are often the first to arrive to an emergency. If transport to a hospital is deemed necessary, we can transport you to one of three local hospitals, Darcy Medical Center, Riverview General Hospital, or Physician's Center ER. If a patient is well enough to decide on the hospital they are transported to, they will have the choice. However, if the patient is unable to make that decision or if they have life-threatening injuries or illnesses, our emergency personnel will be transport them to the closest hospital.

Automatic/Mutual Aid
Our department has a great relationship with the surrounding departments. This relationship has sparked a mutual fire agreement with nearby departments to cover each other's city in the case of a serious incident or event. This relationship later grew to include an EMS contract. Both Brickton City Fire Rescue and Brickside Fire Department have automatic aid agreements with our department. This means that if we need assistance at the scene of an emergency or need station coverage, one of these two departments can assist and help us. We can also request mutual aid from other surrounding counties for Fire/EMS coverage. This extends to those departments. If they require help from us, we are happy to lend a hand to them. This means you, the citizen, will always be receiving the best care from the best fire departments in the area.
